We work on both technology development and applying these optical techniques to problems in the life sciences.
Developing tools and techniques
In the biophotonics group we work on optical tweezers, optical fibre traps, integrated optical and microfluidic devices, and Raman Sensing and apply these tools and technologies to the biomedical sciences.
Addressing biological problems
We collaborate with a small number but broad range of scientists working in the biomedical/life sciences. See the list below for current and past projects.
Portable optical tweezers
Integrated waveguide cell sorter
Isolation of marine microbes using optical manipulation
Label-free cell characterisation
Spheroid interrogation
